The Garfield Heights Municipal Court hears cases for money damages that do not exceed $15,000 in damages. Civil cases with a claim amount of $6000 and up to $15,000 will be heard in Civil Claims Court. Claims that are less than $6000 will be heard in Small Claims Court.

Individuals, businesses such as corporations, limited liability companies, and partnerships can sue and be sued in civil claims. 

Civil claims can be heard by a judge or a judge and jury. Civil claims are more complicated than small claims.
