When the court issues an arrest warrant against someone, it can notify the BMV. The BMV will then place that person under a “warrant block”. A warrant block is not the same as a license suspension. Instead, a warrant block means that the person cannot apply for a driver’s license, temporary permit, commercial driver’s license, and cannot renew existing licenses. The person also cannot register a vehicle in their name. The BMV will notify the person by mail of the warrant block.

The warrant block will be cancelled when the person is arrested, or if the person follows the directions given by the court to have the warrant cancelled.  A defendant may surrender on a warrant by appearing in court any Wednesday at 8:00 a.m.  At that time, the defendant will have a hearing and request a warrant block release.  A fee of $65.00 must be paid to the clerk of court to get the release if the request is granted.  Then the person must file the release with the OBMV. The person must also pay a $15.00 reinstatement fee to the OBMV. After doing so, the block will be removed.
